Your Shopify thank-you page changes on August 26.
On August 26, 2026, Shopify upgrades every remaining thank-you and order status page on non-Plus stores, whether you pressed the button or not. Anything pasted into Additional scripts stops running that day.
What actually breaks
If your store has been running for a few years, the Additional scripts box is where a lot of quiet plumbing lives: conversion pixels for Meta, TikTok and Google Ads, GA4 snippets, affiliate tags, post-purchase surveys, upsell widgets someone installed in 2023. On the new pages that box does not exist, so none of it fires. The most common way merchants find out is the worst way: ad platforms suddenly report zero conversions while orders keep coming in, and campaigns that optimise on those signals quietly fall apart.
Plus stores already lived through their half of this: Shopify Scripts were switched off on June 30, 2026, after years of extensions. August 26 is the same wave reaching everyone else.
The check that takes ten minutes
- Open Settings, then Checkout, and read everything in Additional scripts. Screenshot it. That is your inventory of what will stop.
- For each pixel, move it to Customer events (web pixels) or your platform's server-side option. The pixel vendors all publish migration guides for exactly this deadline.
- For each widget, check whether the app has a checkout extension version. Extension-built apps keep working, script-built ones do not.
- Upgrade the pages yourself before the date, on a quiet afternoon, so the switch happens when you are watching rather than when Shopify's calendar says so.
The honest read
This deadline is annoying and also right. Scripts pasted into a box were fragile, unversioned and invisible until they broke. Extensions are slower to adopt and much harder to break. If a tool you rely on has not shipped an extension version by now, that tells you something about the tool.
One disclosure, since we write about the page in question: AfterBye's partner offers run as a checkout extension, not a script, so this deadline is part of why we built it that way. And if you are reviewing your thank-you page anyway this month, it is a good moment to ask what that page does for you: our view on that is in the August BFCM checklist.
